* Covid-19 is a virus that may cause flu like symptoms and can be serious in some people. properly fitted masks, regular handwashing with soap and warm water, keeping out of others personal space, and staying at home when sick are very important to prevent others from getting sick.
Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.

If you have been exposed to someone who has the virus, or are experiencing any of these symptoms, do not come to school ,and call your School Nurse for instructions on what to do next.
*Students may not bring any medication, either prescription , over the counter, or holistic (natural) to school without a signed order ( See School health forms link above) from their Health Care Provider, with the medication in an original labeled container, delivered by parent/Guardian.
*Students should not come to school with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unexplained rash, uncontrolled cough, draining wounds, untreated scabies or lice, Breathing difficulty, or any condition that may be considered contagious. The student must be symptom free for 24 full hrs, without the help of medication to mask the symptoms (Tylenol, Pepto bismol, etc), before returning to school. To control the spread of illness to others who may be immune compromised, please do not knowingly send your child to school ill and tell them to report to the nurse.
*If a student has a severe allergy, they should bring the Nurse a copy of the Allergy Action Plan from the Medical Provider, and any medications he/she may need to treat the reaction. (unexpired, labeled Epi-Pen, Benadryl, etc)

*Parents of students who have a chronic condition such as Seizures, Diabetes, Sickle cell disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc, or students who require special procedures and care ( gastrostomy tube feeding, tracheostomy care, Urinary Catheter insertion and/or care, IV care, etc) must make in person face to face contact with the school nurse, teachers, and bus driver before their first day to discuss and review the emergency treatment plan.
*Students and parents should understand that no medications, including Antibiotics, Tylenol, Tums, Pepto Bismol, Ibuprofen, Ointments, Drops, etc may be given without an order signed by Medical Provider and Parent. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR ANY PERSON TO ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION TO YOUR CHILD WITHOUT AN MD ORDER SUBMITTED TO THE NURSE. PLEASE DO NOT ASK TEACHERS , NURSE, OR STAFF FRIENDS TO DO SO. However, you are welcome to come to the school to administer your child's medication if the need arises, or contact me about a student self administration permission form.
*If licensed driver students are sent home ill, the nurse will make contact with a parent/guardian, from the school landline, using the parent phone number listed in school records, for approval before releasing them from school. The nurse cannot authorize students to check out if no parent approval is given, they are not showing signs of illness requiring check out, and/or they are not safe to drive themselves home.
*By law, any student entering a North Carolina public school for the first time , must have a School physical within 30 calendar days of enrollment, and the physical must be recorded on the appropriate North Carolina Health Transmittal form. All students must provide an updated vaccine record within 30 calendar days of enrollment. If the requirement is not met, the student will not be able to attend school on the 31st day and afterward until in compliance.
Please note that if your child has any diagnosed health condition with a specific plan to treat ,or medication prescribed, they will not be allowed to attend off campus trips, field trips, internships, etc without parent- nurse communication first and appropriate meds or paperwork delivered from parent. This allows time to schedule training with the Staff and off campus chaperones in an effort to keep your child safe and well.
